and restaurant areas.

Day 2.
Drive
From Brisbane to the Lamington Rainforest.
Leave
Brisbane and continue south to Canungra. Full driving directions will be in
your confirmed itinerary. Driving time from Brisbane to Canungra is approximately
one hour.
Rainforest
Guesthouse
It was in 1911 that the owner's
forebears traveled from the Blue Mountains district of New South Wales and
selected 100 acre blocks of land on the mountain. Later that year, the
remaining land was withdrawn from selection and in 1915 all further private
land ownership and development of the region was halted when the Lamington
National Park was declared.
For many
years this isolated the property and packhorses were the only method of
transportation in and out of the private land. The Guesthouse opened at Easter
1926 and the first guests rode up the mountain on horseback, a two day trip
from Brisbane.
The road linking the property with
the town of Canungra was constructed in the mid 1930's. As a result of this
slow development, the property is surrounded by National Park and the abundant
wildlife and rainforest that it preserves.
The day at
the guesthouse starts with the routine of "having a look at the
weather," with your hosts personally advising on how to get the most for
your day. Any organized walks or trips available on the day will be discussed
at breakfast and you will have the opportunity to ask for directions and obtain
local advice on conditions in other areas you might wish to visit.
The
rainforest around the property teams with birdlife with Crimson Rosellas, King
Parrots and Bowerbirds in the area. There are full and half day hikes and a
complimentary track map is available. You should sign out at reception when
taking any of the longer walks so your hosts know where you are. You may order
packed lunches to take on the walk on any day.
On many
evenings there are nocturnal walks to see the glow worms and spotlighting
excursions to see the local fauna, while in the warmer months of the year (November
to April) you can enjoy the sunset and barbecue your dinner out in the bush.
The
comfortable rooms are fully ensuited with tea and coffee making facilities and
a personal refrigerator. Rooms
feature exposed beams, natural timbers and a balcony with a magnificent view to
the western escarpment.
Accommodation
is included in the Rainforest.
Day
3
Drive to Byron Bay.
From your accommodation in Canungra, follow the road to Byron Bay.
Driving time is about 2 hours and full driving instructions will be in your
confirmed itinerary.

are excellent and it is always a pleasure to walk up on the the headland to
enjoy the scenery. Your confirmed

Accommodation
is included at an excellent Lodge set in the rainforest hinterland just 15
minutes drive southwest of the township of Byron Bay and enjoys uninterrupted

tropical rainforest decor throughout.
The Lodges provide verandahs and balconies overlooking the
surroundings. The in house
restaurant and bar offers a high standard of cuisine and friendly service.
