is designed to give you an example as to how our Custom Travel Planning
itineraries are presented.
Please note
that what follows is meant to be an example of the STYLE of itinerary that we
will produce, it is not necessarily exactly what your planner will suggest for Darwin,
Kakadu and Litchfield Area.
Your full
itinerary will be set up from scratch and will, reflect exactly what you want
from your trip.
Read
through what follows. It will give you a very good "feel" for the
itinerary we will produce for your trip. Please note that this is only a three
day "snapshot" of the style of the itinerary we will present for your
consideration.
Day 1.
Kakadu
Trip - Included
You will be
collected from your Darwin Hotel and will follow Stuart and Arnhem Highways
past the Marrakai Plains, Adelaide, Mary and Wildman River areas into the
Kakadu National Park.
After
crossing the South Alligator River, you will explore the World Heritage Area of
Ubirr Rock and will have the chance to climb up through ancient Aboriginal rock
art galleries to a lookout for views over surrounding wetland areas.
There will be
a visit to the Boweall Center with its informative displays and then on to
Cooinda to join Kakadu's fabled Yellow Waters Wetland cruise.
Hotel
accommodation included in Kakadu. Park Entry Fees and Lunch are included in the
day. All other meals are own cost.
Day 2.
Kakadu - Included.
The morning will be spent in the
Nourangie Rock region and the Anbnagbang Billabong, where you will have the
opportunity to enjoy excellent Arnhemland Escarpment views, ancient Aboriginal
occupation sites and pristine freshwater environs. After lunch (included), venture
off the beaten track to Barramundi Gorge where a 2 Km (1.2 Mile) walk through
the Monsoon Rainforest takes you to a small waterfall and a clear natural
plunge pool.
During the
late afternoon make your way back out of Kakadu National Park, looking around
the Jabiru Township and pausing for an evening snack (own expense) at the Bark
Hut Inn. Arrive back in Darwin mid-evening. (In the event seasonal conditions prevent access to Ubirr
Rock, the group will visit other attractions such as Gubarra Pools, Nanguluwur
or Nawulandja).
Special
Note: This tour is
suitable for all ages, however a reasonable level of fitness is required. All travelers are encouraged to have
adequate travel insurance.
Our included accommodation in Darwin
is located centrally on the Esplanade, perfectly positioned to capture the
views and the breezes of Darwin Harbor, overlooking tropical Bicentennial Park
and the foreshore.
The Hotel
offers international style accommodation, but does retain a distinctive
Australian "feel" about it.
Each room has a full ensuite bathroom.
Day 3.
Full Day Bathurst Island Aboriginal Community Tour - Included.
After a spectacular scenic flight north from the City, arrive at
the modern community of Nguiu.
After a visit to the Museum and old Mission Precinct it is time to have
morning tea with some Tiwi ladies and then visit some of the successful
businesses that have grown producing arts and crafts. This will give you the
opportunity to purchase artifacts and craft work at wholesale prices.
Then it is time to leave the Aboriginal community for a scenic
drive through the wilderness of the Tiwi Islands, to Tomorapi waterfall, a
beautiful, untouched, crystal-clear fresh water swimming hole. Lunch will be in the shade beside the
water hole and there will be time for a relaxing, cooling swim and a wander
along the scenic walking tracks around a natural rainforest.
Later, head back towards
the Aboriginal community, stopping on the way to visit a Tiwi burial site to
learn about the Tiwi people's culture and burial customs. The return flight to
Darwin will arrive back on the mainland at about 5.30pm.
Included: Mini bus or 4 WD vehicle, permits and fees, competent
Tiwi and/or Northern Territory resident guide and lunch.
Please bring:-
In a small overnight bag, bathing suit and towel, sunscreen,
hat, personal requisites,
comfortable clothes, walking shoes, camera with plenty of film and insect
repellent.
Special Note: The roads can be dusty, not a place for your best
clothes.
