Perth, The Margaret River Wine Area, Monkey Mia, Ningaloo Reef, Broome and The Kimberleys - A Custom Travel Planner's View |
The first thing a visitor needs to come to grips with when considering Perth and West Australia, is the sheer size of the place. This one State of Australia covers an area the size of Europe, or the western half of the U.S.A. from the Rockies to the Pacific Ocean. Time here needs to be planned so you don't waste your efforts just getting from one place to another.
Perth city is an island on the land, a modern city set on the Swan River, just a few miles from the Indian Ocean port of Femantle. The beaches, headlands and coastline here are magnificent, stretching more than two thousand miles (3,000 Kms) from south to north. There is so much to be seen in West Australia that two weeks is really not enough to discover all the facets of the environment. Many of our clients leave the area for a separate, second trip to Australia so they can do it justice.
The cooler wine producing and scenic areas to the south of Perth are worth several days on their own account, and can be visited either as a self drive of with a Private Driver/Guide. As you head north of the city, the environment becomes drier and the drive to Shark Bay and Monkey Mia to pet the dolphins can easily take 3 - 4 days by the time you stop at the fascinating geologic features of the Pinnacles, Kalbarrie National Park and the coastal town of Geraldton. It all depends on your preferred style of travel and the time available.
Swimming with the Whale Sharks in the Ningaloo Marine Park is one if the most exhilirating experiences in the world. There is a wealth of unusual coastine here, but be aware that flying is the best way to get up here.
Broome is the pearling capital of the world, and the jumping off place for expeditions into one of the last great wilderness areas in West Australia, The Kimberly Ranges. We have excellent accommodated multi-day trips (the best way to discover the region) traversing the area and can embed one of these in your custom itinerary to make sure you get to a part of Australia usually not visited.
