The Great Barrier Reef is one of the Natural Wonders of the World. Stretching 1,200 miles (1,900 Kilometers) from the northern tip of Australia to just south of the Tropic of Cancer, it offers a very wide variety of Island destinations, and a lot of differing Mainland experiences.
As part of a total Australian trip, you cannot cover all of the Reef, so we recommend accessing it at one of two major points - Cairns to visit the Daintree Rainforest, or Hamilton Island and the Whitsundays.
In the Cairns area, our preferred accommodation is at Palm Cove, just to the north of the city: absolute beach frontage to the Coral Sea and the beach. This beachside township has excellent restaurants and all experiences pick up and drop off here.
The Whitsundays are accessed through Hamilton Island, with its wide range of accommodation and activity options. If you want to sail and discover (either crewed or navigating yourself), this is the place to do it.
We will discuss the relative merits of both areas, and of many of the Island options available as part of the Planning Process.
SCUBA and serious diving options are available, as are fishing charters, from casual full and half day line fishing to serious Marlin Game Fishing. The best of the Reef Trips have been personally inspected so we know exactly what level of activity to include for you.

There are many options for accommodation in the Rainforest, from a comfortable B&B to one of the most highly rated Eco-Lodges in the World.
Hot air ballooning, kayaking, horse riding and rafting are also available. We know the the outfitters who can make the experience as rugged or as "soft" as your experience level demands.
You will not have enough time to discover all of the Reef and the shore based activities in 5 or 6 days, or even longer - the trick is to use your time effectively to experience the widest variety of experience in the most relaxed manner.
