Adelaide is a 1 hour plane flight from Sydney or Melbourne. It is the entry point for Kaqngaroo Island, the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Hahndorf and the Adelaide Hills. The time difference between Adelaide and the east coast of Australia is only 30 minutes. This is one of the few places in the world you have to reset your watch by only half an hour when you change time zones.

Kangaroo Island is about 3 hours drive and ferry time from Adelaide. It takes about 20 minutes to fly there by commuter plane.

The Barossa Valley Wine Region is to the north of Adelaide. McLaren Vale and its coastal wine vineyards is a one hour drive to the south of the city.

Hahndorf still looks much the way it did in the late 1800’s. Visit the art studio of the famous Australian painter, Hans Heysen.

Adelaide City – Adelaide Tours

Adelaide, with a population of almost one and a half million, is the centre of Government for South Australia. It is architecturally a very interesting city, with many of the original buildings intact and renovated.  Adelaide was not settled as part of Australia’s Convict System, as were Hobart, Perth, Brisbane and Sydney, but rather by free settlers from Europe attracted to the promise of freedom from religious persecution.

A day tour of the area will show you the city centre, the pretty and fashionable inner suburbs, the beach precinct around Glenelg,  the Adelaide Hills and Hahndorf. For overnight experiences, check out the multi-day tours and activities.
