Uluru Ayers Rock is rather scaly and smooth. It is in complete contrast to the surrounding red desert sand. To really appreciate the desert, make sure you take one of the sunrise or sunset tours of the Rock. The information from your guide for the trip will really help to explain how the Aboriginal People regard Uluru Ayers Rock as a sacred place.

Climbing the Rock is optional, but you should be aware that the Aboriginal People do not approve. It is a very steep climb on exposed ridges, so it you are scared of heights or exposed places it might not be a good idea.

For a completely unusual experience, book the Sounds of Silence Dinner under the desert stars. Be sure to book in advance as it can sell out. To really appreciate the size and distance, a helicopter tour is the way to go.
