Hahndorf: The area around Hahndorf was settled in the early 1800’s as a farming community, largely by migrants from Germany. There is still a very Lutheran influence in the town. The German Arms Hotel on the Main Street is a great place for lunch. The architecture of the town has been preserved and the feel is one of the original dimensions of the town. If you are interested in old churches, St Michael’s Lutheran Church (1839), and St Paul’s Lutheran Church (1846) are in the village and open for inspection.

The Adelaide Hills: To the east of Adelaide, the Adelaide Hills are a part of the Mt Lofty Ranges. Check the Hahndorf Australian Travel Map and get off the M1 at Crafters to visit the Mt Lofty Botanic Gardens and the Mt Lofty Lookout for fine views back over Adelaide City. Head north on the Mt Lofty Summit Road scenic route through Cleland.

Hans Heysen of Hahndorf: This famous Australian Artist was a German migrant who established his studio at Hahndorf. “The Cedars” is still owned by the Heysen family, and is open for guided tours.
