Launceston City: As you come into Launceston, be aware that there are a lot of one way streets. The Downtown area is centered on the Brisbane Street Mall. Much of the original Georgian architecture has been preserved. The development of the Port Area down by the Tamar River is most attractive and there are a lot of scenic walks.

Cataract Gorge: Launceston is at the point where the North Esk River, the South Esk River and the Tamar Estuary all join. The South Esk River has cut Cataract Gorge through solid rock, creating a wonderful recreational area within easy walking distance of Launceston City centre. You will find Cataract Gorge on the lower left hand side of the Launceston Tasmania Australian Travel Map.

The Tamar Valley: Zoom out on the Launceston Tasmania Australian Travel Map until you see George Town in the top left hand corner. This is where the Tamar Estuary joins Bass Strait. The Tamar Valley is very picturesque. Both the scenery and the wineries of the Valley are well worth visiting.
