Glasshouse Mountains: When Captain Cook sailed up the coast in 1770, he thought the mountains inland of the Sunshine Coast reminded him of the glasshouses in his native Yorkshire, England. Hence the name. These spectacular volcanic plugs rise out of the plains behind the Sunshine Coast.

Sunshine Coast: If you look at the Noosa Australian Travel Map and zoom out to show Brisbane in the south and Fraser Island in the north, you will see an almost unbroken line of sand bordering the Pacific Ocean. The Great Barrier Reef does not come this far south, and so the surfing conditions are excellent.

Noosa Heads: Noosa Heads is the main town of the area, but there are excellent accommodations at Sunshine Beach, Sunrise Beach and Castaways Beach nearby.
