O’Reilly’s Rainforest Guesthouse.
It was in 1911 that the owner’s forebears traveled from the Blue Mountains district of New South Wales and selected 100 acre blocks of land on the mountain. Later that year, the remaining land was withdrawn from selection and in 1915 all further private land ownership and development of the region was halted when the Lamington National Park was declared.
For many years this isolated the property and packhorses were the only method of transportation in and out of the private land. The Guesthouse opened at Easter 1926 and the first guests rode up the mountain on horseback, a two day trip from Brisbane.
The road linking the property with the town of Canungra was constructed in the mid 1930’s. As a result of this slow development, the property is surrounded by National Park and the abundant wildlife and rainforest that it preserves.

You should sign out at reception when taking any of the longer walks so your hosts know where you are. You may order packed lunches to take on the walk on any day.
