Travel Destination Gold Coast
Theme Parks, Family Fun, Surfers Paradise Festival and Beaches
It is not called Travel Destination Gold Coast for nothing. The high rise buildings come right down to the surf beach and the series of inland waterways, shopping and restaurant precincts mix sun surf and fun into a great environment. The Gold Coast is one of Australia’s iconic tourist destinations. It is about an hour’s drive south of Brisbane. You will arrive into Brisbane International, or into the Gold Coast Airport.
History of Travel Destination Gold Coast: The first farms were settled around the Nerang River in the 1870’s. The mixed farms failed, but it was discovered that sugar cane would grow well. By 1889 there was a small community, and it continued a steady development until land was first sold to investors in 1917. Sales were slow until the arrival of good roads in 1925, and then investors started to take notice.
The boom years of the 1950’s and 60’s created a retirement community for Aussies and the beginnings of developments that led towards tourism. The benign climate and great beaches helped. In 2011 the complete foreshore area was renovated and the precinct around Cavill Avenue in Surfers Paradise is now a hub of restaurants, shops and entertainment.
Travel Destination Gold Coast today: Life in Surfers Paradise, a suburb of the Gold Coast, is centered around Cavill Avenue and the Esplanade. The Annual Surfers Paradise Festival is held in March and April.
This celebration of local food, fashion, music, art and film draws large crowds of both locals and visitors. Travel Destination Gold Coast is a great family destination due to the mixture of beach activities and theme parks. Warner Bros Movie World, Sea World, DreamWorld and Wet N’ Wild are the major family attractions.
