Getting to Adelaide

Adelaide is about a one hour flight from Melbourne and Sydney, and about one and a half hours from Brisbane on a nonstop. The Adelaide Airport is very close to downtown, being mid-way between the beachside suburb of Glenelg and the city. A cab is the best way to get downtown if you do not have a rental car.

The Overland Rail Service from Melbourne takes about 12 hours for the daylight service. The Indian Pacific Rail Service from Sydney to Perth stops in Adelaide, and it is possible to get to and from Adelaide from either city.

If you want to drive from Melbourne to Adelaide via the Great Ocean Road, be aware that it will take you a full day to get along the Ocean Road, and then another 7 hours of concentrated driving to get to Adelaide. Zoom out on the Adelaide Australian Travel Map to check the distances.

Adelaide City: Adelaide prides itself on being a cultured place. The Adelaide Festival is held in early March each year and is a celebration of all things in the Arts.
